From the Health Clinic
Welcome to Sunrise Elementary!
The Cherry Creek School District has registered nurses in all of their schools. Their responsibilities are to temporarily care for children who may become ill during the school day, to administer nursing care for students with health concerns, and to assist with the overall management of health services in each of their buildings.
IMMUNIZATIONS: Please review your child's immunization record and visit with your family doctor to ensure that your child has had the REQUIRED immunizations. The requirements for kindergarten are 5 DPT, 4 Polio, 2 MMR, 2 Varicella and 3 Hepatitis B immunizations. You need to give a completed copy to the clinic prior to the first day of school. In the event that your child received immunizations after submitting your child's initial record, PLEASE send in an updated immunization record to the health clinic as soon as possible.
If your child has a specific health concern or if you have any questions concerning this information, please stop by the clinic or call us at 720-886-2905.
ATTENDANCE: During the school year, if your child is ill or will be absent, please contact our attendance line at 720-886-2995. If your child is absent and we do not receive a call from you, we are obligated to call the numbers on your contact list until we have confirmation of your child's absence. Also, please remember to UPDATE the phone numbers on your child's emergency contact list. Sign on to https://my.cherrycreekschools.org/ at any time throughout the school year to update phone numbers. It is very important that we are able to contact you in the event of an emergency.
In case of illness, children should stay at home until:
- They are fever free (less than 100 degrees) for 24 hours without the aid of medication.
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea have subsided for 24 hours.
- Strep infections have been treated with medication for 24-48 hours.
- Parents have checked with the school or their doctor regarding minor contagious illnesses (i.e., pink eye, chicken pox, colds, etc.)
Children who arrive at school after 9:00 a.m. are asked to pick up a tardy slip in the office before going to class. Please call the school or send a note regarding the reason your student is tardy.
Attendance is extremely important for successful student performance. The Colorado School Attendance Law states that every elementary age child (who has attained the age of 7 years) shall attend public elementary school for 968 hours each school year. Good attendance habits begin to form in kindergarten.
